C-orb: Revolutionizing Social-Commerce and Community Engagement
C-Orb (formerly Connectus) showcases the power of user-driven decision making and the need for continuous iteration on digital products. I spearheaded the initiative to transform C-Orb from a simple exam-question-sharing platform into a robust, uniquely valued social-commerce solution. By listening to stakeholders and iterating based on their feedback, we built a product that not only meets current needs but is positioned for future growth. From secure payments to a vibrant community, C-Orb sets a new standard for social commerce, offering a dynamic space where connections and transactions thrive in harmony.
Connectus was initially created for university students to upload and sell past exam and test questions, however the product now known as C-Orb has evolved into a dynamic social marketplace built by students for students. Today, the platform features a digital wallet, social media feed, user profiles, and an admin dashboard for managing transactions, shipping, sales, and community creating a vibrant, secure space for connection and commerce.

Building a Unified Social-Commerce Ecosystem
The challenge was clear: address the gaps in trust, usability, and transaction security in the social-commerce landscape. C-Orb solves these problems by uniting buyers and sellers as community members on a single, secure, and user-friendly platform
For communities
Our goal was to create a digital ecosystem where communities (both in and out of universities) could thrive while engaging in secure and convenient commerce. C-Orb would act as a bridge, connecting people and businesses through trust-driven interactions and easy to use technology.
It wasn't all smooth sailing
Users often struggled with switching between platforms for transactions, communication, and community engagement. Buyers and sellers faced challenges with payment security, transaction disputes, and unclear processes. The existing tools were either too expensive to be used by the average student or lacked the community vibe altogether.
The (re)birth of a new product
We began by conducting extensive research into user needs, pain points, and market trends. Regular interviews and workshops with stakeholders provided insights that shaped every design decision. Key strategies included creating a secure Escrow system to build trust. All transactions flow through this escrow system, ensuring funds are held until order completion. The platform offers intuitive interfaces for buyers and sellers, simplifying navigation and transactions. Community engagement tools allow users to share, connect, and collaborate beyond commerce.

Onboarding
C-orb provides simple and beautiful onboarding screens helping new users quickly understand what the app offers. It transitions smoothly to account setup and the main app. The app also offers in app onboarding for several features like wallet creation and Become a Seller.

The social media feed acts as the heartbeat of the community, enabling users to stay updated with what is going on in the community, view product promotions, and trends. It enhances user engagement through likes, comments and shares making the space more interactive.

Integrated chat functionality ensures seamless communication between community members. It also enhances commerce as users can negotiate deals, ask questions and resolve concerns quickly, increasing trust within the community.

Wallet
The in-app wallet provides a secure and efficient way to handle transactions within C-orb. Users can add funds, make payments and track their financial activity. The wallet is also tied to the built in Escrow feature to enable swift returns when necessary.

The dashboard serves as the central hub for managing platform activity. Admin gets access to key metrics, user messages and requests at a quick glance.

Admins can view, moderate and manage user-generated post from the dashboard. Posts can be searched using keywords and filtered by type and date posted. This helps maintain a safe environment for community members while supporting engagement.

The admin can also list items for sale. The add product feature is very robust allowing for the inclusion of images, discounts, tags, measurements, variants and more.

Reflections
One giant orb for man..
Developing Connectus into C-orb was a journey of overcoming significant challenges, from aligning with evolving user needs to ensuring scalabality and trust in the platform. While the redesign required intense research, iterations and collaboration, seeing the impact the app has begun to have with the test community is really beautiful to see. Community trade and connection has never been done better.
Next Steps
Looking ahead, expanding C-orb's reach to a broader audience is key. Once in house testing is completed, the launch will help the community grow, we will get more feedback from users and continue to iterate on the product. We are also looking to collaborate with communities looking to expand their digital activities.
